sipgate Launches Mobile VoIP on iPhone

San Francisco based sipgate inc launched a Mobile VoIP application for the iPhone. I wrote more about the application here, however, I am not big on the application since it requires ones iPhone to be “jailbroke” in order for the application to be installed.

Thilo Salmon, CEO of sipgate is enthusiastic about his new service. “We love VoIP and we love the iPhone so we are giving people like us who always wanted VoIP on the iPhone the ability to use any SIP-based VoIP service they want. We are thrilled that Apple is opening up the iPhone and we look forward to taking part in future application development.”

Now, just because I am not big on the application, does not mean others won’t. Honestly without testing the application, I can’t say much, but with more than 1 Million+ “unlocked” or “jail broke” iPhones out there, I am sure that there will be plenty of folks who will check out the application especially since sipgate is offering 110 free minutes upon sign-up in addition to allowing users to BYOP “Bring Your Own Provider.”

For more on this new application, check out the company’s formal release.
