iSkoot Diversifies Business, Buys Social.im
I thought I had said something about the need for mobile VoIP providers to diversify themselves…
How ironic.
Less than three hours after my interview with Michael Morisy went live in which I preached the need for mobile VoIP service to diversify beyond cheap minutes, TechCrunch posted that iSkoot, the company that allows you to make Skype calls on your mobile, has purchased Social.im a social network IM client that allows you to message your Facebok friends.
This is the short of moves that will soon become commonplace in the mobile VoIP space. In Social.im, iSkoot is getting a technology that is complimentary in that they can enable mobile VoIP calls to your Facebook friends, but even greater than this is the acquisition of a company that can build mobile messengers. Right now, each company has a technology catering to two specific services, but if done right, they can combine their technologies to create their own mobile voice/messenger service.
Look for more on this in the future…
