Fring Pumps Up Nokia N96 and N78

When it looked like Nokia had turned it’s back on VoIP, mobile VoIP providers didn’t turn their backs on Nokia. At least fring hasn’t.

Fresh off the news that the Nokia N96 and N78 were not going to have the native Nokia SIP client, fring has announced support for the fring application on the N96 and N78 phones. This is definitely news that I didn’t expect to see so quickly, however, as Stacy Higginbothom points out, the removal of native SIP stack from these models actually helps lock users in to a particular service (and what provider doesn’t want that).

Maybe this wasn’t Nokia caving to carrier pressure (as I had previously thought), but an attempt by Nokia to help add elasticity to a mobile VoIP service providers offering?

Nokia N96 is not as good as it is expected. N78 has not easy to use keypad.
