fring API: Build Your Own Mobile VoIP Apps

Earlier today Mobile VoIP provider fring announced the availability of their API to third party developers. fringAPI allows anyone with programming skills the ability to develop applications using the fring core network and mobile client. Although fringAPI is currently only available for the Symbian S60 9.2 OS version of fring, the open up of their core network and mobile client should attract a ton of attention; after all fring claims that they receive 100,000 new downloads every month…I need to find a way for all those users to post reviews…I digress.

I can see numerous different applications coming from this, but one that would be relatively simple to build would be one that integrates fring with a CRM so that when the fring user receives a call they could get a screen-pop on their mobile phone showing more information about said caller. There is certainly more to come on fringAPI, especially when they release subsequent versions for other platforms in the coming months.
