Are VMVSP’s In Mobile VoIP’s Future?

Is the Virtual Mobile VoIP Service Provider (VMVoIP) the future of Mobile VoIP?

Pal and fellow VoIP blogger, Luca Filigheddu seems to think so.

“One of the trends I’m observing is how those services are leveraging their existing infrastructure, investments and developments by offering a white label solution to big companies which want to up-sell new innovative services to their huge potential user base. It’s nothing more than what some mobile carriers are already doing worldwide with the so called MVNOs, but with “VoIP” and “new services” in the middle.”

Now, I will say that there have been a few notable white label deals struck in the Mobile VoIP space this year, but I don’t see a long future in the VMVSP space. If one learned anything from the MVNO space it better be that it is tough to make money reselling minutes and it is tough to make money with niche specialty services sold in conjunction.

I do see, like Luca, a possible platform play for those with existing businesses who want to add Mobile VoIP, however I can’t see a bright future for those who want to simple resell cheap Mobile VoIP minutes.

I have the same feeling as you do.
Mobile VoIP through white labeling may be good at this early stage in the game, but once mobile VoIP becomes the norm, it will fade away.
Taken to the extreme, once IMS happens, operators will be the ones providing mobile VoIP not through a third party, but rather through their own infrastructure.
